1. Sporty Skorts

What are skorts? Skorts are skirts on the outside and shorts on the inside. Isn’t that the most amazing invention ever? Yes, skirts can be super comfy, but that extra layer of protection makes skorts much safer to wear in public! Pro tip: if you don’t have skorts, you can try wearing a pair of biker shorts under your skirt!

Match your skorts with a sporty sweater and a pair of white sneakers and you’re good to go!

2. Pleated Skirt

Pleated skirts are super hot at the moment! Especially in white, but tartan will do as well. So if they’re something you enjoy (we absolutely do!), now’s the time to wear them! Pleated skirts are super versatile too! They look amazing with preppy, edgy, academia, Korean style, goth, and many more styles, and their combinations as well!

4. Black & White

When in doubt, go for black and white. Especially if mini skirts aren’t your everyday thing, don’t worry about crazy color combinations just yet. Keep your outfit minimal and add timeless accessories for a chic and elegant look!

5. Mini Skirt + Puff Sleeves

A form-fitting mini skirt paired with a voluminous top like a puff-sleeved top creates an awesome contrast. Add a pair of sandals and a clutch bag, and you’re ready for a night out!

Mini skirts are perfect for date nights. Keep the rest of your outfit cute and minimal, nothing too over the top!

7. Mini Skirt + Band T-Shirt + Ankle Boots

Every outfit looks instantly cooler with a band T-shirt or even an edgy/funny graphic T-shirt. Your mini skirt can be edgy too, but it doesn’t have to be, basically, almost any style would work. Just make sure you actually know the band/artist, just in case someone tries to strike up a conversation about it. It also feels more personal imo…

8. Bold Prints & Colors

Wearing bold prints or colors can feel daunting on their own. But mixing them together can take your style to a whole new level! It takes practice and some trial and error at first to be able to feel comfortable in such a combo, but the final result definitely worth the effort!

Doc Martens are great additions to your mini skirt in colder months. They also create that perfect contrast between cute, feminine skirts, and tough, manly boots we need to embrace more in our everyday lives. Yin and yang, baby!

12. Tennis Skirt

If you play tennis, now is the time to start wearing your tennis skirt outside of the tennis court. It’s sporty, pleated, and white (see outfits 1. and 2.), encompassing every current mini skirt trend at once!

Shop the look (or DON’T)

Now that you’ve looked at all these pretty inspo images and decided you want to wear mini skirts as often as possible, your first instinct probably tells you NEED TO shop for some new clothes. But do you, really?

Let’s take a step back and explore some alternative ways to recreate these outfits without the impulse purchases you might end up regretting later!

  • Shop your wardrobe first: the most sustainable (and cheapest!) clothes are the ones you already own. Is there a long-forgotten item in there you could use to recreate these outfits instead of buying something new? Who knows, maybe you’ll fall back in love with that old item again. Fashion is cyclical after all!
  • Upcycle: could you give a new life to one of your old pieces of clothing? You can easily learn to modernize your new old clothes by watching a few YouTube tutorials!
  • Borrow or swap: does one of your friends or anyone in your family already own something you’d like to have but they never wear it? Why not just ask to borrow it, or offer to swap for something of yours?
  • Rent: not sure you want to commit to a specific item or a style for the long term? You can easily figure it out by renting it first! With clothing rental subscriptions at Nuuly or Rent the Runway, you can switch up your style each month without purchasing a single thing! But if you fall in love with something, you can always decide to buy it for keeps.
  • Shop second-hand: buying second-hand is more sustainable and cheaper than buying new. Try Vestiaire Collective, our current favorite online pre-loved fashion marketplace, or check out this post: The 30 Best Online Thrift Stores, Vintage Shops & Second-Hand Marketplaces

If you still want to buy something new, we’ve found a few sustainable, ethical, and vegan items we think would help you recreate the outfits from this post! For mindful, and long-lasting purchases, here are a few questions to ask yourself before shopping:

  • Can I wear this item in at least 3 different ways with my existing clothes?
  • Will I wear this item at least 30 times?
  • Do I REALLY need this item?
