Pretty Planeteers of the Month November 2019

Hey Pretty Planeteers,

Another month has passed by which means it’s time for our monthly recap. This is where I talk about what’s happened last month and which were the most impactful posts you shared with our community hashtag #theprettyplaneteer. Those five influencers become the five Planeteers of the Month, one in each category (Earth, Fire, Wind, Water, and Heart).

As you can see, there’s not much that happened on the blog last month. There are some interesting posts queued up, so stay tuned for that. But unfortunately, my time is limited and to be honest, I enjoy more building the Instagram community and engaging with you there.

We’ve just reached 700 Pretty Planeteers yesterday which is so cool! And it always makes my day when I see a new face using our hashtag.

But these new tags also made me a bit hesitant… Because I wasn’t sure whose content to repost on the Instagram account. At first, it was very easy to choose because there were only a few posts so I could shout out almost everyone at least once. But as we’re growing it’s getting more and more complicated. Yet I always find myself repost from the same people.

So I asked myself the question: “Is it fair to always shout out the same people?” There are accounts who use the hashtag once, and maybe if I don’t repost their content they’ll be discouraged and never use the hashtag again. And maybe it’ll be better to shout out those accounts so they stick around. But you know what? No. I want to support the people who tag us in all their posts, the people who engage in the discussions, who want to be part of this community, and of course, who inspire us.

So long story short, here are the five most inspiring posts/people this month!

Look at this chic second-hand outfit for only $51! Delaney is our thrift queen and she loves to share her finds in dancing videos. And we just can’t get enough of that!

Fire: @alisa.koz – Prettiest Outfit of the Month

I love this jumpsuit on Alisa! So trendy but timeless at the same time! I wouldn’t necessarily consider this an autumn outfit, but she lives in Spain, so maybe it’s still wearable there. Also, summer is starting on the other side of the globe, let’s not forget about the people who live there either!

#iworeitagain 🗣 The fast fashion industry thrives on consumers wearing an item of clothing once, getting the photo and never wearing it again. For me, #slowfashion isn't just about buying new second hand but also about loving what you've already got in your wardrobe. If your clothes could talk would they beg you for more attention? I love this blazer found in @scopecharityshops and whilst I've already got my photo for insta in my last post, I'm going to wear it again and again 🤷🏼 Outfit~ Blazer: @scopecharityshops Top: #Depop Skirt: #handmedown from @ellsmaccers97 2 years ago 😮 Bag: #30pluswears . . . . . . . #secondhand #secondhandfashion #sustainable #sustainablestyle #queensofpreloved #thriftedfromtiptotoe #thrifted #charityshopcutie #theprettyplaneteer #charityshop #oootd #notbuyingnew

Jessica from @slowfashioncurator explains perfectly in this Instagram post what’s wrong with today’s fashion industry and the mentality of the consumers. She always inspires me to love and take care of my existing clothes and to approach fashion with a more sustainable mindset. Bonus: she has a killer style too!

Mid-week reflection: When I first started the blog and wanted to post more outfit pictures, I would struggle because I didn’t know how to shoot the pictures as consistently as I wanted to post them. Then I noticed that a few of the sustainable + ethical bloggers were shooting their images themselves. I later learnt that many were using a tripod and a timer on their camera. I decided to give it a go and this picture is prolly one of the first few pictures I ever took using a tripod and a timer. 〰️ It’s amazing to look back on this image. I’m glad I took inspiration from my peers and attempted to do something new as a way to overcome a creative challenge. In-fact, come to think of it, one could argue that shooting your own images in your own house, is possibly the most sustainable way to shoot outfit pics. #madhursblog #slowfashionrepresentationmatters #conscientiouscloset #ethicalfashionrepresentationmatters #minimalistfashion #minimaliststyle #minimalistwardrobe #capsulewardrobe #capsulewardrobechallenge #slowfashionblogger #ethicalfashionblogger #sustainablefashionblogger #sustainableootd #ethicalootd #fairfashionootd #indianaustainablefashionblogger #responsiblestyle #vintagestyling #vintagestyles #theprettyplaneteer

Yaay, finally a guy in our community! I don’t like being sexist and making a big fuss about the gender of people, and I was really hesitant about choosing this category. On the other hand, I feel like the world is still sexist and fashion, especially ethical fashion isn’t considered “manly” (ooh I hate this word). So that’s why I felt like this is something we need to talk about. We need more men caring about sustainable fashion!

When we talk about feminism and gender equality we often think of strong women. What I’d like to see in the future are more compassionate men role models! And Madhur is a perfect example of that! Because everyone should strive for being strong and confident, but also kind and compassionate! It’s not one or the other, all of these traits make us better humans whether we’re men, women, or anything else. Sorry I had to be sexist to be able to explain this.

Anyways, follow Madhur on Instagram @madhurdutta where he talks about mindfulness, sustainability, and fashion!

Heart: @maman.thrifter – Crush of the Month

Rebekah is my crush of the month! I love her style, the fact that she shops second hand or wears what she already has, and reading her insights in the captions! She’s been part of The Pretty Planeteer tribe from almost the very beginning. And it’s lovely to be able to follow her journey! I’m so happy I got to discover her through this community!

I hope you enjoyed this monthly recap! If you want to be featured here on the blog or on the @theprettyplaneteer Instagram page, don’t forget to use the #theprettyplaneteer hashtag!
